JED SCOTT is an alumnus of the University of Miami
School of Music with a
Master’s Degree in Studio Jazz Writing, a multidisciplinary program
incorporating arranging, composition, film scoring and recording. He
received his Bachelor’s Degrees in Music and Latin from
Western Michigan University,
where he studied with Dr. Steve Zegree and sang for three years with the
internationally regarded vocal jazz group
Gold Company. In addition
to arranging and singing, he is active as a recording engineer with a
number of albums to his credit, including three acclaimed albums for
Gold Company and a thirty-minute suite with jazz composer
Maria Schneider which was
recently named a 2005 Grammy Nominee in the category of Jazz
Composition. He has also recorded several nationally distributed works
for Hal Leonard Press. As a student he twice received an international
award from Downbeat Magazine for “Best Jazz Arrangement” and received a
third Downbeat Award for “Best Studio Recording.” He is an adjunct
faculty member at
Schoolcraft College in
Livonia, Michigan, directs AcaFella, an extracurricular men's a cappella
group at
Grosse Pointe North High School,
coaches an adult a cappella ensemble, Noteworthy, and maintains a
private teaching studio. His arrangements are published by UNC Jazz
Press and have been sung by many of the top high school and collegiate
jazz choirs throughout the United States, as well as by professional
ensembles such as Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. He lives in Grosse
Pointe, Michigan with his wife and young son.
